np! town and gown is a term coined to describe the inter-relationship between universities (gowns for the research lab gowns and togas?) and their surrounding towns/cities... case in point... Manila's U-Belt, UST's Sampaloc, UP and Ateneo's Katipunan, etc.
The town-gown relationship is important in campus planning and urbanism because of how both elements enrich each other's experience and evolution... These also serve to provide very fertile grounds for multi-disciplinary learning and interaction... the true hallmarks of a uni education naman aren't just based on what you learn in class, but out of it...
